The Ways We Choose!
Dave Carey
Dave Carey is an acclaimed motivational speaker; team work, leadership, and organizational effectiveness consultant; personal and business coach; and author aiming to bring joy, hope, wisdom, and encouragement to all with whom he has contact.
Dave's history speaks directly to objectives of leadership and management as well as risk taking, accountability and empowerment. As a POW in Hanoi for more than five years, he was forced into a horrible and unexpected situation where his inner strength as a leader emerged, and he, along with his fellow prisoners, had to creatively re-channel their thinking and communication skills just to survive. This inspiring presentation will do more than motivate you; it will encourage you to lead to your highest capacity.
Session Descriptions

Presented by Fred Becker, President & CEO, NAFCU
Basic Regulations for Volunteers
As a director or other credit union official, you need to
understand the key rules and regulations that affect your
credit union. In this session, we'll explore some of the major
laws and regulations that are changing in 2010, including: mortgage laws, overdraft protection regulations and the credit card rule. In addition, we'll explore things outside of the legal arena that affect how your credit union operates.
Presented by Anthony Demangone, Director of Regulatory Compliance, NAFCU
Board & CEO Conversations
Communication between Board and CEO can produce unintentional breakdowns, unfounded hidden agendas and unspoken dialogue. These conversations need to shift and be
rich and rigorous, focusing on assessments, opinions and differences while preserving dignity and encouraging
participation. This session will give participants the tools to understand how to be generative and productive in the conversations between you, your fellow board members and
the CEO.
Presented by Deedee Myers, CEO, DDJ Myers, Ltd.
BSA for Volunteers
Compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act has become a major challenge for credit unions for credit union leaders. And stricter BSA enforcements are predicted. As the focus shifts toward
top-down leadership on BSA issues, examiners expect more oversight by credit union boards. Directors must have
knowledge of BSA basics and the underlying issues to provide
the “informed oversight” that defines successful board
leadership today and tomorrow.
Presented by Anthony Demangone, Director of Regulatory Compliance, NAFCU
Reading Financial Reports, Ratios & Indicators
In this session, you will gain an overview of common financial documents, such as balance sheets and income statements, review of key areas of focus and potential indicators of problems and identify questions that you should be asking your credit union’s CEO and CFO.
Presented by Rob Johnson, Executive Vice President/Principal,
c. myers
Case Study: Analysis of a Failed Credit Union
Take a real look at an actual failed credit union. During this discussion, identify different paths that led to this credit union’s failure; what are well-intentioned or traditional ideas that can lead to problems; and how the failure might have been prevented.
Presented by Rob Johnson, Executive Vice President/Principal,
c. myers
Rethinking the Revolutionary Role of Leadership
The accelerated pace and complexity of change before the
financial services industry should compel most leaders to ask
tough personal questions about how they lead, and rethink
long-standing models of authority and management. Old, conventional ways of guiding an organization are yielding less return these days; and new styles of leadership are clearly required in order to keep your business relevant. This powerful
and engaging presentation will challenge ideas and
assumptions about leadership, and offer industry-specific ideas
for creating a culture where impassioned people work together
for growth and success.
Presented by Joe Sullivan, CEO & Founder, Market Insights
