Michael Coleman was named director of regulatory affairs in October 2013. In this role, he serves as staff liaison to federal regulatory agencies, assists in handling the development and implementation of the association’s regulatory policies, and conducts analysis, interpretation and explanation of policy issues impacting NAFCU's members.
As head of NAFCU’s regulatory affairs division, Coleman oversees the regulatory affairs staff, which issue regulatory alerts to NAFCU members, speak at credit union events and the association’s conferences, participate in webcasts and write regulatory articles for certain NAFCU publications.
Coleman began his career at NAFCU in February 2012 as regulatory compliance counsel.
Prior to joining NAFCU, Coleman worked as legal counsel and tax advisor for the Federated States of Micronesia in the department of finance and administration. In this position, he advised the secretary of finance on all legal matters, primarily those involving national tax laws and regulations.
Coleman is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Federated States of Micronesia Bar, and the American Bar Association.
