About NAFCU

The Choice is Yours!

The Application Deadline for the 2010 Board of Directors Elections was 5 pm (ET) on March 8, 2010.

The NAFCU Board Election Process

NAFCU’s Board of Directors consists of 11 members who are chief executives or volunteers (current credit union Board members) from federal credit union members.  This year, there will be four Director positions available, each for a three-year term.

The four Board seats that will be open for election in 2010 are: two At-Large positions, as well as seats in Region II and Region V.

  • NAFCU Region II States: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, West Virginia
  • NAFCU Region V States: Arizona, Alaska, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming

NOTE: The states within these regions are not the same as those currently established by the NCUA.

The two At-Large Director seats are currently held by: Bob Marquette, Members 1st FCU (PA) and Ed Templeton, SRPFCU (SC); the Region II seat is held by Charlie Thomas, Mid-Atlantic FCU (MD) and the Region V seat is held by Brad Beal, Nevada FCU (NV).

Brad Beal (Region V) is ineligible to run again per NAFCU Bylaws, since he has completed three, 3-year terms; while incumbents Bob Marquette (At-large), Ed Templeton (At-large) and Charlie Thomas (Region II) have indicated their intentions to seek re-election.

Look for election materials in your mail soon!

NAFCU Nominating Ballots for the two At-Large seats, as well as the Region II and Region V seats, will be mailed on March 30th – please take the time to fill out your ballots and return them no later than April 13, 2010, for inclusion on the official ballot.

In April, you will be sent an official ballot to vote for the candidates of your choice.  These ballots are due back to NAFCU on May 24, 2010.  New Directors will take office on July 22nd, at the Annual Business Meeting during the 43rd Annual Conference & Exhibition in Navy Pier, Chicago.

At-Large and Regional Director Nominations

There are two ways to be nominated for the four available Director positions:

1.  Slate of Candidates(now closed):  The Nominating Committee selects a slate of candidates according to the NAFCU Bylaws.  For consideration by the Nominating Committee, candidates should submit an application (link below) by March 8th to Shelley Clarke, Chair, Nominating Committee, NAFCU, 3138 10th Street North, Arlington, VA 22201 or via email to lraney@nafcu.org, or by faxing to (703)522-2734.

2.  By Petition:  A candidate can be nominated by petition if his/her name is submitted by at least five NAFCU members’ nominating ballots.  These nominating ballots will be sent to NAFCU members on March 30th and are due back to the NAFCU Secretary on April 13th.

Please note: There are three people at your credit union who may cast your credit union’s ballot on both the nominating and official ballots.   They are: (1) Chief Elected Officer, (2) Board Secretary and (3) Chief Executive Officer/President/Manager.

Official Election Process

On April 26th, NAFCU members in Region II and Region V will receive a regional ballot to cast a vote for their Regional Director.  Also, all NAFCU members will receive At-large ballots to cast a vote for each of the two At-large Director positions.  These ballots are due back to the NAFCU Secretary on May 24, 2010.
