Tun A. Wai, Ph.D., Director of Research and
Chief Economist

Dr. Tun A. Wai is NAFCU's director of research and chief economist. Wai joined NAFCU in February 1987 and is responsible for most of the research data and statistics used in NAFCU's lobbying efforts in Washington, DC.
He also is responsible for creating many products and services for NAFCU-member credit unions, including the individualized peer-analysis reports, the net worth calculator, daily rates, Flash reports and Data Flash releases. In addition he serves as staff liaison to the NAFCU Share Insurance, Liquidity and Development Fund Oversight Committee. He is also a founding member of the Credit Union Economics Group (CUEG) and initiated the NAFCU/Fannie Mae alliance.
Wai, who has been quoted often, holds a B.S./B.A. in management and a Ph.D. in economics from Georgetown University, as well as an M.B.A. in finance from New York University.
Prior to joining NAFCU, he held research positions with the World Bank, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Brookings Institution, an independent research group.
