MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT: A COMMITMENT TO YOU AND TO YOUR CREDIT UNION'S FUTURE
Fast track your credit union career with this intensive, comprehensive credit union management school. These 5 ½ days will cover all aspects of credit union organization and management facilitated by some of the leading experts in the credit union community.
One of the top challenges credit unions face is the development and retention of talented management staff. NAFCU has developed the Management Development Institute (MDI) for senior and mid-level credit union managers to increase their knowledge of credit union organizational management. Students will have the unique opportunity to gain insight and perspective on daily decision-making and strategic planning processes and have an opportunity to exercise what they have learned through developing team-building skills in completing a case study project to be presented at the end of the week. Students will receive the knowledge and skills needed to be prepared for the top leadership roles in their credit union.
Application deadline is October 3, 2008.
Participants will:
- Develop skills and a knowledge base in areas outside their current job function to enhance their promotion potential within the credit union.
- Understand the challenges that a CEO faces in managing all components of the credit union.
- Learn to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
- Gain an understanding of how their daily decisions affect all areas of the credit union.
- Work with peers from other credit unions across the nation in proactive strategy sessions.
- In an interactive classroom environment, learn from a faculty qualified by both academic background and credit union experience.
- Utilize the concepts taught daily in the classroom to complete a group project where individual expertise and teamwork are tested and refined.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The program specifically addresses the needs of senior management, middle management and branch managers. Entry-level managers with at least a bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or related field and entry-level managers with financial industry experience will also be considered. All applicants must have at least a year of credit union experience when applying to this program.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In order to standardize the level of instruction, faculty will assign preliminary assignments on some topics in the course outline which participants must complete before attending the Institute. Instruction will be offered assuming that participants have completed these preliminary assignments.
Participants will be divided into study groups for work on an assigned credit union case study, whereupon they will make recommendations for the future of their assigned "credit union" based upon the concepts studied in daily classroom modules. This case study will be presented by the group for faculty evaluation on the last day of the program.
CREDIT AND CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of matriculation as well as 39 hours for CEU purposes, and will return home with a greater understanding and knowledge of credit union management.
