NAFCU, CFPB discuss CU issues

NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray and senior staff from both organizations met at CFPB headquarters Thursday to discuss policy matters affecting the credit union industry.

Topics ran the gamut of issues of mutual interest. Those include, among other things, how to ensure CFPB rulemaking takes small institutions' needs into account, the bureau's work to establish a credit union advisory committee and progress on mortgage and credit-card disclosure reforms.

"Yesterday's meeting furthered NAFCU's long-running dialogue with CFPB officials and staff at every level," said Becker. "NAFCU will maintain this dialogue to help mitigate new regulatory burdens for credit unions and ensure consumers' continued access to credit union services as the bureau works to carry out its mandate under the Dodd-Frank Act."

Thursday's meeting participants also included Dan Berger, NAFCU's executive vice president of government affairs, Carrie Hunt, vice president of regulatory affairs and general counsel, and Dillon Shea, regulatory affairs counsel.
