2 witness panels for H.R. 3461

Wednesday's House subcommittee hearing on H.R. 3461, the Financial Institutions Examination Fairness and Reform Act, will include testimony from two panels of witnesses, with NAFCU witness Jeanne Kucey of JetStream FCU on an industry panel of five.

The hearing is slated for 2 p.m. in the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. Reps. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., and Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., the subcommittee's chairman and ranking member, are the chief sponsors of H.R. 3461, which has a total of 81 cosponsors.

NAFCU supports H.R. 3461. The bill would create a new standard for financial institution examinations and establish another path for institutions to appeal supervisory determinations. It applies to exams by NCUA, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and other federal financial institution regulators.

First up to testify Wednesday are federal regulators. The witness list includes NCUA Executive Director Dave Marquis, Kevin Bertsch from the Federal Reserve's division of banking supervision and regulation, Sandra Thompson from FDIC's risk management office and Jennifer Kelly from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's mid-size/community bank supervision operation.

Kucey will testify as part of an industry panel that also includes representatives of the American Bankers Association, CUNA and the Independent Community Bankers of America. A fifth slot was still being filled at press time.
