CFPB announces diversity office

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced Monday that will it will launch its Office of Minority and Women Inclusion this week.

The office will be under the guidance of the bureau's OMWI working group. The group is co-chaired by Patrice Ficklin, the bureau's assistant director for the Office of Fair Lending & Equal Opportunity, Zixta Martinez, the assistant director for the Office of Community Affairs, and Dennis Slagter, the assistant director of human capital.

The new CFPB office will be charged with developing standards for:

  • equal employment opportunity, workforce diversity and inclusion at all levels of the agency;
  • increased participation of minority-owned and women-owned businesses in the CFPB's programs and contracts; and
  • assessing the diversity policies and practices of the CFPB's regulated entities.

In announcing the office, Richard Cordray, the CFPB's newly appointed director, said diversity and inclusion have been cornerstones of the bureau's foundation and through the OMWI, they will remain an essential part of the CFPB.
