NAFCU 2012 Annual Awards underway

NAFCU is accepting entries for its 2012 Annual Awards program, which gives association members the opportunity to have their most outstanding professionals, volunteers, CEOs and institutions recognized on the national level.

The competition is free and open to all natural person credit unions with membership in NAFCU. Entries are being accepted online and will be due March 16.

The NAFCU Awards will recognize the Federal Credit Union of the Year, CEO of the Year, Professional of the Year and Volunteer of the Year for credit unions with less than $150 million in assets and those with $150 million or more in assets.

The Professional of the Year award, in particular, presents a great opportunity for NAFCU members to highlight the efforts of their behind-the-scenes staff who make a difference in their institutions. Last year, Dan McGowan, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Pioneer West Virginia FCU (Charleston, W. Va.), was recognized as a NAFCU Professional of the Year – an experience he calls uplifting and greatly humbling.

He said winning the NAFCU Award allowed him to represent other stand-out individuals in the credit union industry. McGowan encourages NAFCU members to look around their institutions for outstanding professionals to nominate for the NAFCU honor. "Assess the contributions of your staff who are a cut above the rest and are deserving of national recognition through NAFCU's Annual Awards program," he said.

NAFCU Annual Award winners, selected by the NAFCU Awards Committee, will be honored during NAFCU's 45th Annual Conference & Exhibition. This year's conference will take place at the Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Winners will also be profiled in a future issue of The Federal Credit Union, NAFCU's bimonthly magazine and receive one free registration to any of NAFCU's 2012 conferences. If winners in the less-than-$150 million asset-size category choose free registration to this year's Annual Conference, they will also receive up to $500 in reimbursement for travel to the conference.
