New website showcases co-op stories

Credit unions are encouraged to share their stories and experiences at Stories.coop, a website created to showcase cooperatives throughout 2012, the International Year of the Cooperatives.

The site will tout the benefits of the cooperative business model by featuring stories of co-ops from around the world. A new story will be added each day. Cooperatives are encouraged to upload text, photos or videos which demonstrate the IYC theme, "Cooperative Enterprises Build a Better World."

The National Cooperative Business Association, which is spearheading U.S. observance of IYC, has designated Jan. 12 as a coordinated day of action for cooperatives to upload their stories.

Go toStories.coop and proceed to"Tell Your Story"to share your credit union's experiences as a cooperative.

NAFCU is also encouraging credit unions to engage their members in celebrating IYC in their local communities. The association's website includes a section where credit unions can find goals and messaging for U.S. IYC observance and tips for celebrating IYC at their credit unions. The page also links to NCBA's IYC toolkit, which includes a fact sheet on IYC and a customizable press release, print and Internet materials and other ideas for celebrating IYC.

The United Nations designated 2012 as the International Year of the Cooperatives to recognize the unique role cooperatives play in social and economic development.
