Bureau invites responses on reg streamlining

March 14, 2012 – The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is extending to June 4 the deadline for submitting responses to the initial round of comments it received regarding its regulatory streamlining initiative.

The streamlining project addresses the future disposition of consumer protection rules that were transferred to the CFPB from seven federal agencies. The bureau published its initial request for information in December and gave those interested until March 5 to submit their views. NAFCU, in its March 2 comment letter, urged the CFPB to (among other things) consider eliminating an ATM disclosure rule that requires the owners to post signs warning of potential fees; and eliminating lenders' costs from the information lenders must disclose to consumers seeking to finance their home purchases.

The bureau said early on that it would take responses on the initial comments until April 3. However, it said an extension is appropriate given the complexity of some of the issues addressed and in light of a request submitted jointly by some groups seeking more time to respond.
