NAFCU 2012 award winner passes away

Sept. 7, 2012 – Doug Spitler, the winner of NAFCU’s Volunteer of the Year award this year for his work at Electrical FCU in Arvada, Colo., passed away Aug. 31 and will be remembered in services scheduled for Sept. 10 in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Spitler served on Electrical FCU’s supervisory committee for 19 years, most of them as its chairman. He served on the board of directors for the past 13 years, seven as chairman. He was nominated for this year’s award based on his efforts to help guide the institution through tough financial times, his focus on ensuring volunteers and management have the training needed to ensure a strong operation and his guidance during a recent transition of CEOs.

Spitler was recognized for his accomplishments during the Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the NAFCU Annual Conference this July in Nashville, Tenn.
