Sept. 6, 2012 – NAFCU lobbyist Brad Thaler said Wednesday that credit unions are well-represented at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., noting most of the attendees he has met are credit union members who “appreciate the good work credit unions do.”
Thaler, NAFCU’s vice president of legislative affairs, was commenting on the second day of the DNC, which continued past 11 p.m. with former President Bill Clinton announcing his party's formal nomination of President Barack Obama for a second term in office. Thaler watched Clinton's address and announcement from within the Time Warner Center.
Throughout the day, Thaler ensured that credit unions and the issues they care about most caught the attention of lawmakers. Thaler attended an afternoon policy discussion between Politico's Mike Allen and Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., on deficit reduction and several other ancillary events, including one honoring moderate Democrats in the Senate.
The DNC is host to some bipartisan interaction as well, and Thaler was able to log some face time with Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C. McHenry, who serves on both the House Financial Services and Oversight and Government Reform committees, will be speaking before the NAFCU Congressional Caucus next week in Washington.

Today is the final day of the DNC. Obama is now set to give his nomination acceptance speech inside the Time Warner Center, not outside, due to the forecast of inclement weather.
