2013 Defense CU Summit canceled

April 29, 2013 – NAFCU has canceled this year's Defense Credit Union Summit, previously slated to take place this July in conjunction with the association's Annual Conference and Solutions Expo, in consideration of budget cuts under sequestration affecting Department of Defense personnel.

NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker, in an email to credit unions Friday, said most of the policymakers who would present at this event would be unable to attend due to budget constraints. "Asking DoD personnel to use their limited resources to travel could strain their ability to best serve our military and the financial institutions working with our men and women in uniform," he added.

Becker said NAFCU will still facilitate networking among defense credit unions by hosting, free of charge, a Defense Credit Union Networking Breakfast July 9 at the conference headquarters hotel. NAFCU will also hold one or two free webcasts this year to help keep credit unions up-to-date on defense credit union issues.

Credit unions already registered for the summit will be contacted and provided refunds.
