NCUA IG DeSarno to retire, Hagen to succeed

April 25, 2013 - NCUA Inspector General William DeSarno will retire on June 1 and will be succeeded by current Deputy Inspector General for Audit James Hagen, NCUA announced.

Hagen has been at NCUA since 2005. He has also worked in inspectors general offices in the U.S. Postal Service, the Social Security Administration and the Treasury Department.

NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel said, "Working with [Hagen] in the past, I have found that he maintains the independence of that office while offering solid and constructive suggestions on how the agency can improve its operations and do a better job."

DeSarno is retiring after 16 years with NCUA and 44 years of government service. Fryzel commented that DeSarno's "efforts to modernize and make the Inspector General's office more responsive and involved in improving the agency are well recognized."
