Countdown to Caucus: Murphy on speaker slate
August 16, 2013 – Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., a member of the House Small Business Committee and the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions, has joined the list of speakers for NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, which is just three weeks away.
Murphy will speak on the last day of Caucus, which runs from Sept. 8-11 and will take place at Washington’s Mayflower Renaissance Hotel.
In addition to his committee assignments, Murphy is a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of pro-business Democrats.
Murphy joins several prominent speakers scheduled for the week, including: Financial Crimes Enforcement Network Deputy Director Frederick Reynolds, NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., and Fannie Mae President and CEO Timothy Mayopolous. Paul Begala, noted political analyst and columnist, will give the keynote address.
Also on the speaker slate are:
- Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif.;
- Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.;
- Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif.;
- Rep. Adrian Smith, R-Neb.;
- Rep. Robert Hurt, R-Va.; and
- Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo.
Credit union representatives attending this year’s Caucus will attend three days of general sessions on key issues facing the industry – among them the credit union federal income tax exemption, regulatory relief and housing finance reform – and will be discussing their concerns about those issues with lawmakers in their Capitol Hill offices.
