Matz urges CUs to join 'Saves' campaigns

NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz is encouraging credit unions to promote the importance of saving to their members by participating in the annual America Saves and Military Saves Weeks, Feb. 25-March 3.

Matz, in an announcement, called this year's campaign "a perfect opportunity for credit unions to educate and empower their members and their families so they can balance their budgets, buy a home, or put money aside for their children's educations."

NAFCU is a partner with both America Saves and Military Saves Weeks. Through the programs, financial institutions are asked to promote the value of saving through all their communication channels, including social media. Credit unions can download and personalize the promotional materials offered on the campaign website.

Last month, the association hosted the final planning meeting for this year's Military Saves Week. Quincy Enoch, NAFCU's associate director of legislative affairs and military liaison, will participate in a National Guard financial literacy event Feb. 19, a week before Military Saves Week; he will participate in the Pentagon's Financial Readiness Fair Feb. 25-March 2. Patty Briotta, NAFCU's director of public relations, is fielding members' questions about America Saves Week as well.

Members can direct their questions about America Saves Week to Briotta via email to pbriotta@nafcu.org, or dial 703-842-2820. Questions about Military Saves Week can be directed to Enoch by email to qenoch@nafcu.org, or dial 703-842-2261.
