NAFCU nominates 2 to BSA Advisory Group

NAFCU on Friday nominated Katey Proefke of Chevron FCU and Anthony Vellek of Transportation to membership on Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's Banks Secrecy Act Advisory Group.

The BSAAG provides advice and recommendations to the Treasury secretary on BSA operations. The group addresses issues brought before it by the FinCEN director. New members selected for the advisory group receive three-year membership terms.

Proefke and Vellek were nominated in letters Friday from NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker.

Proefke, assistant vice president and compliance officer for Chevron FCU, offers both multi-state and global perspectives to the work of the advisory group, he said. Her credit union serves members in more than 50 countries, with 2,000 of its members residing in countries designated as being of primary concern to FinCEN. Proefke has had close interaction with ICE Homeland Security Investigations and Secret service on unique, complex enforcement matters, he added.

Vellek, compliance officer for Transportation FCU, also offers a broad perspective to the group, Becker added. His credit union serves government and non-government employees, and Vellek himself has long experience in policy and program development and training for BSA matters. Vellek has contributed to the continued improvement of BSA recordkeeping and reporting programs and also provides instruction in live BSA training sessions.
