NCBA backs MBL, capital, privacy notice bills

The National Cooperative Business Association on Friday wrote Congress in support of three measures introduced recently that reflect key elements of NAFCU's five-point plan for regulatory relief.

In separate letters to House leaders, NCBA President and CEO Michael Beall said his organization supports NAFCU's call for passage of H.R. 688, the Credit Union Small Business Jobs Creation Act; H.R. 719, the Capital Access for Small Businesses and Jobs Act; and H.R. 749, the Eliminate Privacy Notice Confusion Act.

"NCBA's support for these much needed measures demonstrates how critically important they are to not only credit unions, but all cooperative businesses," said NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker. "NAFCU appreciates NCBA stepping forward to help advance this legislation."

The support comes on the heels of a call to action issued last Thursday by Becker to NAFCU members. Becker urged members step up the pressure on lawmakers to preserve the credit union tax exemption and enact the regulatory relief measures outlined in the five-point plan, which was sent to Capitol Hill Feb. 12.

NAFCU is encouraging members to share data from the association's landmark tax exemption study and its five-point plan for credit union regulatory reform with their members of Congress. Members can learn whether their representatives are cosponsors of any of the above-mentioned bills via NAFCU's grassroots action center.
