Thaler: Here's the buzz

Feb. 6, 2013 – NAFCU launched a new monthly email newsletter late last month – the NAFCU Beltway Buzz, by association lobbyist Brad Thaler – to give member credit unions an "inside baseball" look at issues on Capitol Hill that could affect them.

Thaler, NAFCU's vice president of legislative affairs, introduced the newsletter Jan. 25 with a look at the challenges of working with a deeply divided Congress on issues affecting the nation's not-for-profit credit unions. He noted the coming, renewed debate over the Dodd-Frank Act, tax reform, ongoing efforts to win more regulatory relief for credit unions and the president's re-nomination of Richard Cordray as CFPB director.

The first issue generated a high level of interest and positive feedback from readers. "We had great response this first time out," said Thaler. "My hope is that with each new issue, NAFCU members will get more of a sense of the fun and challenges of working on Capitol Hill and look forward to it as a brief respite from the workaday routine."

The NAFCU Beltway Buzz will be emailed the last Friday of the month; members should look for their next issue Feb. 22. See a sample and sign up here.
