Jan. 11, 2013 – The Treasury Department’s Go Direct campaign is touting the fact that January is Go Direct month, and it’s encouraging financial institutions’ to promote the switch from paper checks to direct deposit.
Go Direct notes that promoting the switch is especially important since there is less than two months left before the deadline to move federal check payments to electronic payments. It wants financial institutions and other organizations to help encourage the millions of senior citizens, people with disabilities and other federal benefit recipients that still receive paper check payments to switch to electronic payments.
To help promote the switch to members, credit unions can download a number of materials via the Go Direct Month tool kit. These materials include newsletter copy, social media tips, talking points, news briefs and printed materials such as fliers and posters.
Recipients of federal recurring payments have until March 1, 2013, to move their payments to electronic form.
