House back to take up disaster bills
The House reconvenes today to take up action on additional relief measures for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
The president on Jan. 6 signed H.R. 41, a bill introduced by Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., that temporarily increases the National Flood Insurance Program's borrowing authority to help Hurricane Sandy victims.
The legislation coming up this week, the Sandy Recovery Improvement Act of 2013, addresses the Federal Emergency Management Agency's authority to approve projects; lease and repair of rental units; hazard mitigation; dispute resolution; assistance to individuals.
The House, meeting through Wednesday, could also act this week on disaster relief appropriations.
The Senate doesn't return until Jan. 21, when it convenes for a joint session of Congress for presidential inauguration activities.
