Jan. 28, 2013 – Credit unions can encourage their members to build wealth by participating in America Saves Week, Feb. 25-March 3, NAFCU Director of Public Relations Patty Briotta said in a CUinsight.com article Friday.

The article looks at how participation in America Saves and other annual events – Financial Literacy Month in April, Cyber Security Awareness Month in October – can help credit unions connect with their existing and prospective members.

Briotta says consumers are making saving a higher priority. They are looking for financial institutions that have “their best interest at heart. And more and more often, they are turning to credit unions.”

Institutions participating in America Saves are asked to promote the value of saving through all their communication channels, including social media. Credit unions can download and personalize the promotional materials offered on the campaign website.

The campaign also has a military component, Military Saves Week, which runs the same week; sign up online to participate.
