Countdown to Caucus: 2 speakers added

July 29, 2013 – Reps. Ed Royce, R-Calif., and Adrian Smith, R-Neb., have just been added to the speaker slate for NAFCU's annual Congressional Caucus, "Storming the Hill," where credit unions from around the country will let lawmakers know about the issues that matter most to them.

Royce is on the House Financial Services Committee and is the chief sponsor of H.R. 688, legislation backed by NAFCU that would raise the credit union member business lending cap. Smith serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, whose work on tax reform NAFCU is closely watching as it seeks to preserve credit unions' federal tax exemption. He was also chair of the Financial Services Working Group that NAFCU met with in May.

NAFCU's credit union lobbying event of the year, the Congressional Caucus will bring together hundreds of credit union leaders to discuss important industry issues, visit their congressional representatives and hear from prominent speakers. Key issues covered will include tax reform, member business lending, supplemental capital, housing finance reform and credit unions' growing regulatory burden.

Well-known political analyst and columnist Paul Begala will be the keynote speaker. Also speaking will be Financial Crimes Enforcement Network Director Jennifer Shasky Calvery, NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel, Fannie Mae President and CEO Timothy Mayopolous and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

The Congressional Caucus will take place at Washington's Mayflower Renaissance Hotel from Sept. 8-11. All credit unions are welcome to attend.
