ADP report shows private-sector job gains
Oct. 4, 2013 – The partial government shutdown means the September jobs data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is unavailable, which is drawing attention to a hiring report from Automatic Data Processing Inc., which typically follows the monthly government report.
According to ADP, private sector jobs increased by 166,000 in September. NAFCU economists said the ADP data showed roughly the same private sector job growth that was expected for September from the BLS report.
The ADP report shows service-sector jobs increased by 147,000, and financial services jobs were reduced by 4,000. ADP does not include government workers like the BLS data does, and it does not provide unemployment data.
