Berger featured in CQ Weekly, CUbroadcast
NAFCU President and CEO B. Dan Berger
Sept. 4, 2013 – NAFCU President and CEO B. Dan Berger was featured this week in CQ Weekly and in Mike Lawson’s talk show “CUbroadcast.”
CQ Weekly (login required) noted that Berger has led the association’s advocacy efforts as head lobbyist for the past seven years, a position now filled by Carrie Hunt, who also serves as NAFCU’s general counsel. The story quoted Berger on the current regulatory burden credit unions are facing: “Credit unions didn’t cause the financial crisis, but we sure feel the impact of the rules being promulgated by the CFPB and others.”
Berger also discussed how NAFCU has hired more attorneys to assist members with compliance. He pointed out that many NAFCU members only have one compliance attorney but are expected to deal with the same number of regulations faced by big banks.
On “CUbroadcast,” Lawson and Berger discussed NAFCU’s plans for a state-of-the-art learning management system to help members whose credit unions have the money to send them to conferences but can’t spare staffers for the amount of time necessary to attend them. Berger also talked about NAFCU’s focus on “extreme member service” and said the association’s goal going forward would be to make sure it is putting members first in every way.
