Congress OKs bill funding troops despite any shutdown

The Senate today passed a bill ensuring the military continues to receive pay in the event of a government shutdown, in turn, reducing the number of credit union members that may be left financially strapped if that shutdown occurs. The bill awaits the president's signature.

On Saturday, the House proposed and passed H.R. 3210, the "Pay Our Military Act," introduced by Mike Coffman, R-Colo. Coffman's legislation also protects the pay for Department of Defense civilians and contractors essential for the military's support.

Without a comprehensive continuing resolution passed by midnight, a government shutdown will occur, which will still impact thousands of federal employees.
