Sept. 6, 2013 – NAFCU President and CEO B. Dan Berger will discuss credit union issues with newly sworn-in NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger in a meeting today that will also include Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt and Senior Regulatory Affairs Counsel Tessema Tefferi.
The NAFCU representatives will focus on the association’s priorities regarding credit union regulation and supervision. Currently on NCUA’s plate are capital reform, derivatives, mortgage-related examinations and access to emergency liquidity.
Metsger will make one of his first public speaking appearances as an NCUA Board member during NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus on Monday. Metsger was recently sworn into office in a small private ceremony on Capitol Hill, which Berger attended. Metsger, a Democrat, is a former Oregon state senator. He was nominated to the NCUA Board May 16. His nomination was approved by the Senate Banking Committee June 27, and the full Senate confirmed him Aug. 1.
In August, NAFCU wrote NCUA with comments on the agency’s 2013 regulatory agenda, focusing on listed and unlisted items.
