NAFCU, CU reps at FHFA on GSEs
Sept. 27, 2013 – Several leaders and executives from NAFCU member credit unions joined with NAFCU staff in a meeting Thursday at the Federal Housing Finance Agency to discuss credit unions’ relationships with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and secondary market issues.
FHFA representatives at the meeting included Sandra Thompson, FHFA’s deputy director of housing mission and goals; Mike Opshal, principal analyst on industry outreach; and Joe Predergast, a supervisory financial analyst.
The group also discussed developments in housing finance reform legislation. H.R. 2767, the “Protecting American Taxpayers and Homeowners Act,” has been cleared by the House Financial Services Committee. S. 1217, the “Housing Finance Reform and Taxpayer Protection Act of 2013,” awaits action of the Senate Banking Committee.
NAFCU is pressing for guaranteed access to the secondary market for credit unions and loan pricing based on quality.
