NAFCU webcast teaches effective board practices
Sept. 25, 2013 – NAFCU’s webcast yesterday schooled credit union board members on effective oversight practices amid the current regulatory environment.
“The NCUA is placing more emphasis on boards to be more actively involved in the activities of credit unions,” webcast presenter Richard Garabedian, partner with Luse Gorman Pomerenk & Schick P.C., said during the webcast. He added that in light of today’s financial issues, like the increasing regulatory burden, board involvement is very important.
John Gorman, also a partner in the firm, discussed board governance and the proper role of a board. “The fundamental role of boards is oversight, not management,” he said.
Both presenters are recognized for their knowledge of fiduciary duties and corporate governance matters within financial institutions. In Tuesday’s webcast, they walked webcast participants through:
- board governance;
- risk oversight;
- CEO oversight;
- strategic planning;
- board development;
- board fiduciary duties.
NAFCU’s webcasts are available for up to 12 months after the live broadcast; access is covered by the registration fee.
