NAFCU webcast eyes fair lending guidance

April 22, 2014 – Credit unions will learn about NCUA's and CFPB's focus and guidance regarding federal fair lending requirements during a webcast delivered through NAFCU's Online Training Center on Wednesday, at 2 p.m. Eastern.

The webcast is the second in a series focusing on NCUA's recent fair lending guidance. Jeremiah Buckley, a founding partner at BuckleySandler LLP, and Lori Sommerfield, a lawyer at the same firm, will both speak. They will focus on how NCUA guidance outlines the examination process and fair lending best practices for credit unions, as well as frequently asked questions about compliance.

They will also discuss the CFPB's areas of fair lending focus, including access to credit, specific credit products, consumer complaints and compliance management systems. Credit union executives, chief lending officers and risk officers are encouraged to attend, as well as.

Buckley regularly provides strategic and legal advice on compliance risk management and enforcement issues involving federal regulators. He previously served as minority staff director of the Senate Banking Committee. Sommerfield has practiced extensively in the areas of fair and responsible lending, and has more than 20 years of experience in consumer financial protection law and compliance risk management.
