New members named for key congressional committees

Senate and House leaders recently announced new committee member line-ups for the 114th Congress beginning in January, including new members of the Senate Banking and Finance Committees.

New members in the Senate Banking Committee include Sens. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., and Sens.-elect Tom Cotton, R-Ark., and Mike Rounds, R-S.D., and Ben Sasse, R-Neb. Both Scott and Donnelly have previously spoken at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus.

Senate Democrats announced Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will be the committee's ranking member. Republican committee members will vote to elect committee chairs at the start of the 114th Congress, and Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., is widely expected to get the chairmanship.

Senate Republicans also announced three new members of the Senate Finance Committee: Sens. Dan Coats, R-Ind., Dean Heller, R-Nev., and Scott. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., now chairman, will serve as ranking member in the 114th Congress. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, is expected to become Senate Finance chairman.

In November, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, announced new Republican committee members would be: Reps. David Schweikert, R-Ariz., Scott Tipton, R-Colo., Roger Williams, R-Texas, Representatives-elect Bob Dold, R-Ill., Frank Guinta, R-N.H., French Hill, R-Ark., Mia Love, R-Utah, and Bruce Poliquin, R-Maine.
