American Banker praises CU response to Target

Feb. 19, 2014 – An American Banker columnist praised BOND Community FCU, a NAFCU member in Atlanta, for its comprehensive management of the Target Corporation data breach, noting the credit union's personal touch in dealing with the incident compared with the response of Bank of America's credit card subsidiary.

In his column, Andy Peters discussed his confusion after an automated voice mail from FIA Card Services and the call center agent's inability to confirm whether the need to reissue his credit card originated from the Target breach or another issue. He compared that experience with the phone call he received from BOND's CEO, Ruth Artis, who told him directly that his credit card was being replaced because of the Target breach.

Peters consulted a senior analyst at Aite Group who says the credit union's response to the situation is the kind of member service that encourages members to not be uncertain about their accounts' continuing security. The analyst says, "I can't imagine that anything would rank above that. That has to be the ultimate in customer service."
