NAFCU to CUs: Get involved in 'Saves' Week

Jan. 31, 2014 – NAFCU is encouraging credit unions to engage their members on saving tactics and good personal financial management tools by participating in America Saves Week and Military Saves Week, national campaigns that kick off Feb. 24 and run through March 1.

Through the programs, financial institutions are asked to promote the value of saving through all their communication channels, including social media. Credit unions can download and personalize the promotional materials offered on the campaign website.

Part of the Department of Defense's Financial Readiness Campaign, Military Saves Week is aimed at encouraging military servicemembers and their families to save. Quincy Enoch, NAFCU's associate director of legislative affairs and military liaison, will participate in a number of Military Saves Week activities.

NCUA released a statement encouraging credit unions to get involved. "A savings account is very important to a household's financial stability," NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said in a press statement on Thursday. "The America Saves and Military Saves campaigns are excellent opportunities for credit unions to educate members and their families about balancing household budgets, building a cushion for when they run into financial problems and putting money aside for a new home, retirement needs or their children's educations."

NAFCU members can direct their questions about America Saves Week to NAFCU Director of Public Relations Patty Briotta via email to pbriotta@nafcu.org. Questions about Military Saves Week can be directed to Enoch, qenoch@nafcu.org.
