Financial literacy panel meeting, hearing ahead
Jan. 22, 2014 – The Financial Literacy and Education Commission’s Feb. 12 public meeting will focus on ways the federal government can work with the private sector and state, local and tribal governments to promote savings and build the financial capability of young Americans.
The commission is headed by Treasury and includes representatives from 20 federal agencies and departments, including NCUA. NAFCU closely follows the commission’s work on financial literacy and education efforts and make recommendations that highlight credit unions’ outreach to members and surrounding communities on the sound conduct of personal financial matters.
America Saves Week is slated Feb. 24-March 1, and the commission plans to mark the occasion with a Feb. 25 field hearing in Atlanta on improving employee financial capability through workplace financial education.
Both the Feb. 12 commission meeting and Feb. 25 field hearing are open to the public, but registration is required of those wishing to attend in person. Registration for the Feb. 12 meeting closes Feb. 5 or when capacity is met. The field hearing will be webcast live.
