NAFCU nominates member, staffer to BSA group

Jan. 28, 2014 – NAFCU on Monday nominated Katey Proefke of Chevron FCU in Oakland, Calif., a NAFCU member, and the association's own Bernadette Clair for membership in the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's Bank Secrecy Act Advisory Group.

The BSA Advisory Group is chaired by the FinCEN director and makes policy recommendations to the Treasury secretary on issues considered by the group regarding BSA operations. It includes representatives of financial institutions, trade groups and federal regulatory and law enforcement agencies.

Proefke is Chevron FCU's assistant vice president and compliance officer. Many of her credit union's members live in areas flagged by FinCEN as being at high risk of money laundering, other financial crimes and drug trafficking, so she has considerable experience in such issues.

Clair is NAFCU's senior regulatory compliance counsel. Clair's participation in the BSA Advisory Group would provide all NAFCU members representation on the council. She is an expert on BSA regulations and regularly speaks on BSA and other issues.

Monday's nominations were submitted by NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger.
