McWatters before Senate Banking today

March 13, 2014 – Mark McWatters will testify today before the Senate Banking Committee on his nomination to the NCUA Board.

If he is confirmed by the Senate, McWatters' term on the agency board would continue through Aug. 2, 2019. He will assume the seat of NCUA Board member Michael Fryzel, whose term expired Aug. 2.

McWatters was nominated Jan. 7 by the president. Today he will be testifying with other nominees including Federal Reserve Board nominees Stanley Fischer, Jerome Powell and Lael Brainard (Fischer has also been nominated to be Fed vice chairman); and Gustavo Velasquez Aguilar, nominated as an assistant secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

McWatters was on the Troubled Assets Relief Program Congressional Oversight Panel from 2009 to 2011. Before that, he served as counsel to Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, now chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. He's currently the assistant dean for graduate programs and an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.

This hearing was rescheduled from March 4 due to winter storms in the Washington, D.C., region.
