Week-long Reg Compliance School a success

March 17, 2014 – On the last day of a full week of sessions and discussions on the latest news in compliance, Regulatory Compliance School attendees heard presentations on NCUA's security regulations, the Bank Secrecy Act and managing vendors.

Transportation FCU Compliance Officer Rusty Vellek, who spoke earlier in the week on the Truth in Savings Act, gave a presentation about NCUA's requirements related to safeguarding members' sensitive information. Attendees later heard from NAFCU Senior Regulatory Compliance Counsel Bernadette Clair about the Bank Secrecy Act and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Attorney David Reed, partner in Reed & Jolly, detailed key provisions of NCUA's privacy rule.

The final speaker before the conference wrapped up was NAFCU Director of Regulatory Compliance JiJi Bahhur, who discussed vendor management and how to deal with contracts and third-party relationships.

Attendees also enjoyed a networking lunch on the last day of the conference, which took place at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center at National Harbor, Md. Registration is already open for Regulatory Compliance School in 2015, which will happen at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.
