Income-building sessions at Annual Conference

May 15, 2014 – The May 23 deadline is approaching for early bird registration savings for NAFCU's Annual Conference and Solutions Expo in Las Vegas, which is adding new sessions focusing on lending and e-commerce.

The conference – set for July 22-26 at the Venetian Hotel & Resort – will focus on issues like the recent risk-based capital proposal from NCUA and new technology available to credit unions. The most recently added sessions, offered within the Growing Revenue and Improving Your Bottom Line tracks, are:

  • "Deploying E-Commerce Strategies" with Matt Chesky, senior vice president of corporate sales at Insuritas. Chesky will discuss how online banking and "E-Branch" websites allow credit unions to compete with big banks.
  • "Credit Scoring: Separating Myth from Reality" with John Ulzheimer, a nationally recognized expert on credit. He will discuss how credit scores are affecting credit union members and lending portfolios.
  • "Global Capital Market Trends and Planning for the Impact on Your Portfolio," with Scott Stone, senior vice president and chief investment officer at Pentegra Retirement Services. Stone will talk about how to start planning for rising interest rates and their effect on portfolios.
  • "Leveraging Trends in Mortgage Lending," with a panel of mortgage experts, including Steve Richman, national spokesperson and customer sales trainer at Genworth Financial, and David Allison, senior vice president at Dovenmuehle Mortgage, Inc., discussing how to maximize opportunities to grow loan portfolios, and how to adapt lending strategies to new mortgage regulations.

Geoffrey Canada , an education advocate and key figure in "Waiting for ‘Superman,'" the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for best documentary, will be one of three keynote speakers at the conference. Attendees will end the week with the critically acclaimed Las Vegas production, "Smokey Robinson presents Human Nature: The Motown Show."
