Thaler thanks Miller for vets MBL bill, urges action
NAFCU Vice President of Legislative Affairs Brad Thaler urged House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller, R-Fla., to find ways to advance his H.R. 5061, a bill that would exclude veterans' loans from the credit union member business lending cap, before year's end.
"With our economy still in recovery mode and many who have served our nation in transition back to the private sector, your legislation is very timely and needed," Thaler wrote to Miller on Tuesday. "It is with this in mind that we urge you to look for ways to advance this measure prior to the end of this Congress."
Under H.R. 5061, introduced in July, "veteran" would include anyone who served on active duty, and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. If enacted, his MBL measure would advance a key element of NAFCU's five-point plan for credit union regulatory relief.
NAFCU is also urging an increase in credit unions' MBL cap from 12.25 percent of assets to 27.5 percent.
