At Caucus: NAFCU, CUNA leaders talk CU issues

The NAFCU and CUNA executive committees and senior staff discussed issues important to credit unions Thursday at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, headquarters for the NAFCU Congressional Caucus in Washington.

Both NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger and incoming CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle attended the meeting, where Berger formally welcomed Nussle to the industry and the prospect of working with him on credit union concerns.

Credit union leaders at NAFCU's Congressional Caucus this week are getting the latest on key issues from members of Congress, NCUA, CFPB, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and more.

In visits to lawmakers on Capitol Hill, attendees are telling their senators and representatives "enough is enough" regarding their growing regulatory burden. Key issues on tap include NCUA's risk-based capital proposal, legislation to give credit unions access to supplemental capital, the need for national data security and breach notification standards for retailers, ensuring full access and fairness for credit unions under housing finance reform and preserving credit unions' federal tax exemption.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus concludes today.
