Signature Systems says Jimmy John's not only impact

The hacking incident that affected 216 Jimmy John's stores nationwide also affected more than 100 other restaurants and shops, according to Signature Systems, the point-of-sale vendor whose login credentials were stolen and used in these incidents.

Signature Systems released a statement last week, and it was reported by KrebsonSecurity.com. "This incident affected 216 Jimmy John's stores and 108 other restaurant locations," Signature Systems said. The time frame when payment cards "may have been captured at an affected restaurant varies," it noted, from as early as June 16 and to as recently as mid-September.

The reports about Jimmy John's and Signature Systems shortly followed revelations that some 56 million payment cards may have been affected in the Home Depot breach, the largest retailer data breach reported since last year's Target incident.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger on Friday wrote President Obama seeking support for legislation that would require merchants to adhere to a national data security and breach notification standard, as credit unions and other financial institutions do now.
