NCUA webinar May 20 gives cybersecurity helps

NCUA will host a free webinar, "Cybersecurity Basics," at 2 p.m. Eastern May 20 featuring an overview of the latest information on cybersecurity and ways credit unions can prevent cybercrime.

The webinar will also discuss NCUA's new $7,500 cybersecurity grants for qualified low-income credit unions. The grants are provided through the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund.

The panel of speakers will include NCUA Deputy Director of Examination and Insurance Timothy Segerson, CUNA Mutual Group Risk Management Consultant Chris Gill and Citrix Sharefile Corporate Sales Associate for Financial Services Jessica Cromer. The discussion will be moderated by Dominic Carullo, an economic development specialist in NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives.

Segerson will talk about how NCUA and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council are jointly developing a self-assessment guide for credit unions to use. The webinar will also address credit union losses as a result of cybercrime, document and data protection and consequences of failing to safeguard information.
