Nealon talks MBL, FOM at American Bar Association conference

NAFCU Director of Regulatory Affairs Alicia Nealon will speak to the American Bar Association Credit Union Committee on the importance of member business lending and field of membership reform during the association's Business Law Section Spring Meeting in San Francisco today.

Nealon will emphasize NAFCU's continued push for regulatory relief for credit unions in these areas.

Field-of-membership changes are a major focus of NAFCU's "Top Ten" list of regulations to amend or eliminate, as well as its five-point plan for regulatory relief. In March, NAFCU convened a task force of members from its Legislative and Regulatory Committees to examine issues related to FOM rules and develop recommendations for enacting change.

NCUA Board members have expressed unanimous support for exploring ways to strengthen the federal credit union charter and review FOM restrictions. NAFCU will continue to work with NCUA as the agency considers initiatives to provide FOM relief within its current statutory authority.
