Hensarling joins NAFCU Congressional Caucus slate

House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, has joined the growing list of speakers for NAFCU's Congressional Caucus, which takes place Sept. 14-17 in Washington.

Hensarling has been leading House efforts to roll back the Dodd-Frank Act – including NAFCU-backed measures to create a five-person commission to lead CFPB – with emphasis on the need for regulatory relief for community-based financial institutions. He is scheduled to speak to Caucus participants the morning of Sept. 17.

Also joining the Sept. 17 speaker slate are Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., a member of House Financial Services and the lead Democrat on H.R. 989, the "Capital Access for Small Businesses and Jobs Act." This NAFCU-backed measure would authorize NCUA to allow credit unions more access to supplemental capital.

Jennifer Shasky-Calvery, director of the Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, is slated to speak to Caucus attendees Sept. 15. Shasky-Calvery leads the federal government's enforcement of Bank Secrecy Act anti-money laundering rules, including requirements on currency transaction and suspicious activity reporting.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus is the association's credit union lobbying event of the year, bringing hundreds of credit union representatives to Washington to learn about and meet with lawmakers on the key issues affecting them and their consumer-members.
