NCUA webinar Aug. 19 on internal controls, accounting

NCUA will host a free webinar at 2 p.m. Eastern Aug. 19 for credit unions on how they can maintain adequate internal controls at their institutions.

The webinar, "Internal Controls and Accounting Tips for Small Credit Unions," will be led by Dominic Carullo of NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives. He will host a panel that includes Carolyn Penaluna, senior analyst of NCUA's Region IV Division of Supervision; Mary Gay, principal examiner of NCUA's Region IV; and Kerri Piekarski, principal examiner of NCUA's Region III.

The webinar will discuss topics on:

  • the reason for internal controls;
  • separation of duties;
  • supervisory committee audits;
  • correct use of a prepaid account;
  • appropriate accounting for "other real estate owned" transactions.
