NCUA slates free FOM strategies webcast

NCUA will hold a webcast on "Successful Strategies for Field-of-Membership Expansion" March 25 at 2 p.m. Eastern. The webcast will be free.

Webcast speakers will include Vanessa Lowe, an economic development specialist in NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives; Ynette Gibbs, CEO of Washington-based Newrizons Federal Credit Union; and staff from NCUA's Office of Consumer Protection.

The speakers will focus on how to use data to maximize membership growth, how to pair a business plan with applying for a field-of-membership expansion, and Newrizons' experience with its expansion. Attendees can register and submit questions in advance at NCUA's website.

NAFCU has been pressing NCUA to improve the agency's current chartering and FOM rules. The association has recommended legislative changes in its five-point plan for credit union regulatory relief regarding FOM and regulatory action in its "Top Ten" list of rules to fix or eliminate.

NCUA has a working group on this issue that it says is reaching out to credit unions soon.
