Brady to chair Ways and Means Committee

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, was selected Wednesday to serve as the new chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, replacing Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., who is now speaker of the House.

Brady was selected for the committee chairmanship by the House Republican Conference's Steering Committee. The selection is due to be ratified today by the full Republican Conference.

Ryan was sworn in last Thursday as House speaker after being elected with a 236-vote majority. He was was chosen several weeks after former Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, announced his plans to resign in September.

NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger congratulated Brady on his selection to head Ways and Means. "Congressman Brady's tenure in Congress since 1997 speaks volumes about his commitment to public service. As a small business owner and with his experience as chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, we believe he will have a keen understanding and appreciation of credit unions' issues. We look forward to working with him in his new role."
