Hunt encourages NAFCU members to attend NCUA forum

NAFCU Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Carrie Hunt is encouraging association members to attend NCUA's planned Oct. 30 open forum.

Last week, NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz announced plans for an Open Forum with credit union stakeholders. She said she welcomes conversation on any topic relating to the agency. Registration for the event opened Tuesday and is limited to the first 100 registrants.

Hunt, in an email to members, urged credit unions to attend and present their concerns. "With the NCUA Board's recent finalization of risk-based capital, as well as its upcoming actions on the agency's operating budget and field of membership, NCUA needs to hear what credit unions are thinking to ensure that the agency incorporates the practical perspectives of credit unions and their members into its decision-making," Hunt wrote.

She continued, "I hope your credit union will join me at this forum. If you are unable to attend in person, please feel free to reach out to me or Alicia Nealon, NAFCU's Director of Regulatory Affairs, to share your questions and issues that you would like to see raised during the forum discussion."

NAFCU has long urged NCUA for greater transparency in its budgetary process. In the last five years, NCUA has released and approved its annual budget without a formal hearing. The forum is scheduled for two weeks before the board will vote on the agency's annual budget.
