Hunt touts CU relief ahead of House panel hearing

NAFCU's Carrie Hunt urged lawmakers' support of several bills, one concerning NCUA's budget process and another ensuring credit unions parity with banks under Federal Home Loan Bank membership criteria, ahead of a House Financial Services subcommittee hearing today on how to cut job creators' regulatory burdens.

The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit is examining various legislative proposals to reduce regulatory burdens on "Main Street job creators" in a hearing today set for 10 a.m. Eastern.

Hunt, NAFCU's senior vice president of government affairs and general counsel, urged the subcommittee to support H.R. 2287, the "National Credit Union Administration Budget Transparency Act," which would require NCUA to publish a draft of its budget in the Federal Register and hold a public hearing to garner comments from the public.

She also urged support for H.R. 2473, the "Preserving Capital Access and Mortgage Liquidity Act," which would ensure credit unions parity with banks under Federal Home Loan Bank membership criteria; and H.R. 2896, the "Taking Account of Institutions with Low Operation Risk (TAILOR) Act," which would provide relief to credit unions by ensuring that NCUA and other regulators do not use a one-sized-fits-all approach to rulemaking.
